Introduction of the China-Kazakhstan Traditional Medicine Center

In order to implement the important directive of President Xi Jinping put forward in the signed article published in Kazakh media regarding the establishment of a traditional medicine center in Kazakhstan, and to fulfill the Shaanxi-related outcomes of the Second Foreign Ministers' Meeting among China and the Five Central Asian Countries and the China-Central Asia Summit, which called for "promoting the construction of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) centers," the China-Kazakhstan Traditional Medicine Center was jointly established by Xi'an Encephalopathy Hospital of TCM and the Shaanxi Provincial Hospital of TCM in collaboration with Kazakh partners. This initiative was organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Health Commission and the Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine under the leadership of the provincial Party committee and government, with the support and guidance of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In September 2022, the "China-Central Asia People-to-People Friendship Forum," co-hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, held in Xi'an. At the forum, then Governor of Shaanxi Zhao Yide, Chen Fengxiang, President of the China-Central Asia Friendship Association, Jiang Jiang, Vice President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Zhang Wei, Counselor of the Eurasian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, jointly unveiled the "China-Kazakhstan Traditional Medicine Center." In December of the same year, the center was officially inaugurated in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

The center is located in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, covering an area of approximately 1,500 square meters. It is staffed with over 10 specialists in Chinese and Kazakh traditional medicine, as well as rehabilitation therapists. Utilizing professional techniques such as acupuncture, massage, cupping, scraping (Gua Sha), as well as movement therapy, occupational therapy, sensory integration training, and physiotherapy, the center provides traditional Chinese medicine treatment, rehabilitation, and healthcare services for pediatric cerebral disorders, adult cerebral disorders, and common diseases.

While leveraging the unique advantages of TCM to serve the health needs of local communities, the center is committed to fostering exchanges and cooperation between China and Kazakhstan in the field of traditional medicine, contributing to the shared future of China and Central Asia.

The center has established exchanges and cooperation with institutions such as Nazarbayev University, Astana Medical University, the National Children's Rehabilitation Center, and the National Scientific Medical Research Center of Kazakhstan. Together, they have conducted training programs on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), lectures on TCM healthcare knowledge, and other promotional activities, actively fostering mutual learning and integrated development in the field of traditional medicine between China and Kazakhstan.

After nearly a year of development, the center has preliminarily established an integrated model encompassing TCM diagnosis and treatment, rehabilitation, talent training, and cultural exchanges. It strives to become a standardized and exemplary traditional medicine center. In the future, the center aims to leverage its mature experience to promote the establishment of more TCM centers across Central Asia, benefiting a greater number of people.
